The Horse and Groom on Heath Common in Wakefield has been subjected to some major changes under management of Australian chef - Liam Parsons. The establishment now boasts a wine bar and intimate restaurant, where all the tables are set for two and are distanced far enough apart to provide some privacy. There is often soothing Jazz playing in the background, sometimes live, and the atmosphere is a cocktail of romance and pleasurable enjoyment.
Liam, who is concentrating his attention on “Couples” and “Intimate dining” suggests there is a need to focus on the forgotten art of romance. "There is no-where to take someone special anymore" he says. Which led to him creating the perfect venue for first dates, marriage proposals, wedding anniversaries, and he confesses "The odd 'discreet' meeting". Average main course is about £12 with an excellent choice of wines. Bar meals are served as well as restaurant meals between the hours of Midday and 10pm. The restaurant caters for weddings and functions offering excellent buffet and a la carte packages. There is a musicians music night every Wednesday evening at about 8.30pm which is run by Rhubarb Jammin' Music Magazine. This attracts musicians from far and wide giving them an opportunity to perform in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. On Saturday night there is live, relaxing entertainment. Sunday dinner is a buffet style affair usually with three meats and a large selection of fresh vegetables.
